for Kerry
As earth darkens here it likely
lightens there, and with first flush
first flutter also of your lashes --
hold a moment ere you don your glasses,
in my own skull depth allow me
momentary folding vision of
a blue blinking eye, unfocused
on dawn's twilight, new color
fused without the droll detail
that must be ours by day.
Go now, I ungrasp the sight
that's been the first faint blur
of color in my night.
